The Time for Yoga

Third Eye Wellness is a Space to devoted to overall wellness. Yes it begins with the brows right now. But as my logo says “Because doing your brows is about more than just the way you look...” Brows are just the beginning...


As we move through this pandemic, so much is uncertain. There is not so much as a whisper as to when gyms will be safe to reopen. My tiny little yoga studio at Third Eye Wellness can not support socially-distanced yoga. But this doesn’t mean that we cannot practice capital Y Yoga. Capital Y Yoga, encompasses much more than Yoga Asana. Yoga by definition is an 8-Limbed practice. If we take into consideration that caring for ourself is an essential spiritual practice. It can lead us to a stronger commitment to it. Something that is essential to our well-being, as well as the well-being of those around us.

Sacrificing Self-Care serves no one. I’ll be the first to admit, however, that my self-care is the first thing that gets sacrificed as life overwhelms me: I reach for the wine bottle, instead of the water bottle, I reach for the French fries, instead of the fruit, I reach for the remote control or the smart phone, instead of the walk or the yoga mat. The lesson in all of this is an obvious one. Yet, no one is served from never indulging either. But somehow it’s easier to fall into the overindulgence.

Self-care is a huge industry at present. But really self-care needs to be more than a buzz activity, more than a mark for cosmetic and gym industries. Self Care needs to be an essential. When we take a devoted amount of time to connect with what nurtures us, this helps us expand and serve. Whether it’s an eyebrow appointment to help us feel fresh and groomed, or a yoga class that helps us stretch, strengthen and release, this devotion to our self only helps to restore our energy. And the devoted yoga stretch, or meditation practice, or hike, or walk, don’t need to be extensive. The important thing is that they need to be consistent. B. K.S Iyengar says that if we can stand on our mat for Yoga and have 15 minutes a day, we are truly lucky. We are the better for it, and consequently, the world around us is better for it.
